Conditions We Commonly Review
Who We Are
Conditions We Commonly Review
At The Nexus MD, we provide physician-written nexus letters, DBQs, and medical record reviews for veterans seeking clear, medically supported opinions for VA disability claims.
Some claims involve direct service connection. Others involve secondary or aggravation theories. Below are some of the most common conditions and claim types we review.
Physician-reviewed conditions commonly assessed for VA nexus letters include:
Sleep Apnea (OSA) • Migraines • GERD • Allergic Rhinitis / Sinusitis • PTSD-Related Secondary Conditions • Depression / Anxiety Secondary Conditions • Orthopedic Conditions • and more
Sleep Apnea (OSA)
Sleep apnea is one of the most common conditions veterans contact us about.
Common examples may include:
- OSA secondary to PTSD
- OSA secondary to allergic rhinitis
- OSA secondary to sinusitis
- OSA aggravated by another service-connected condition
We commonly review sleep studies, CPAP records, treatment notes, and related ENT or pulmonary documentation.
Migraines
Migraines are frequently reviewed under direct, secondary, or aggravation-based theories.
Common examples may include:
- Migraines secondary to tinnitus
- Migraines secondary to PTSD
- Migraines secondary to chronic pain
We commonly review treatment records, medication history, symptom frequency, and functional impact.
GERD
GERD may be reviewed under a direct, secondary, or aggravation theory depending on the medical records.
Common examples may include:
- GERD secondary to PTSD
- GERD secondary to medications
- GERD aggravated by another service-connected condition
We commonly review GI records, medication history, and treatment notes documenting reflux-related symptoms.
Allergic Rhinitis / Sinusitis
Allergic rhinitis and sinusitis are common VA claim issues and may also be relevant in certain secondary sleep apnea cases.
We commonly review:
- chronic congestion
- nasal obstruction
- mouth breathing
- ENT records
- imaging, when available
PTSD-Related Secondary Conditions
PTSD may serve as the underlying service-connected condition in certain secondary claims.
Common related conditions may include:
- Sleep apnea
- GERD
- Migraines
- Depression
- Anxiety
We commonly review mental health records, medication history, sleep complaints, and overall symptom timeline.
Depression / Anxiety Secondary Conditions
Depression and anxiety may be relevant in claims involving chronic pain, tinnitus, sleep disturbance, or other service-connected conditions.
Common examples may include:
- Depression secondary to chronic pain
- Anxiety secondary to tinnitus
- Aggravation by another service-connected condition
We commonly review therapy records, medication history, and supporting treatment documentation.
Common Orthopedic Conditions
We also review select orthopedic claims when supported by the medical records.
Common examples may include:
- Cervical spine conditions
- Lumbar spine conditions
- Shoulder conditions
- Knee conditions
- Hip conditions
- Radiculopathy and related nerve symptoms
- Chronic joint pain with functional limitation
We commonly review imaging, orthopedic evaluations, treatment history, physical therapy records, operative reports, and documentation reflecting severity and ongoing impairment.
DBQ Services
In some cases, a DBQ may also be appropriate.
DBQs are more structured and objective than nexus letters and must closely align with the medical records. For that reason, clear documentation is important before moving forward.
Independent Medical Examinations
We also provide detailed medical record reviews and independent medical evaluations in select VA-related cases requiring more in-depth analysis.
Our Approach
Every case is reviewed individually. Our goal is to provide a clear, medically supported opinion when the records justify it.
